2026 pricing reference

How much does a resume writer cost?

Professional resume writing costs roughly $100 to $3,000, depending on career level and how much is actually included. Most working professionals land between $300 and $800. Executive packages start where mid-career ones end.

That spread is wide enough to be useless on its own, so this page breaks it down: what each level costs, the four ways writers bill, and the four variables that move a quote more than anything else. Every figure here is a market range, not a promise from any one provider — always confirm what a specific quote covers before you pay it.

Resume writing cost by career level

Career levelTypical costTypical turnaroundWhat's usually included
Template / AI generator$0 – $60MinutesA layout and a prompt. No human reads it.
Student and entry-level$100 – $3003 – 7 daysOne resume, light formatting pass, limited revisions
Mid-career professional$300 – $8005 – 10 daysResume plus cover letter, one or two revision rounds
Senior / director$600 – $1,5001 – 2 weeksResume, cover letter, LinkedIn rewrite, intake call
Executive / C-suite$800 – $3,000+2 – 4 weeksPositioning strategy, board-level framing, multiple revisions

The averages you'll see quoted elsewhere — usually somewhere near $400 — describe almost nobody. A student resume and a C-suite positioning document sit at opposite ends of a thirty-fold spread, and blending them produces a number that fits neither. Price against your own level, not the average.

What actually moves the price

Career level and complexity

This is the single biggest driver. A ten-year linear career in one function is a straightforward document. A career changer, a candidate with employment gaps, a bilingual applicant crossing markets, or an executive whose value lives in P&L outcomes rather than duties — each of those takes hours of strategy before a word gets written.

Human strategist versus generated draft

Under about $100, you are almost certainly buying a template or an AI-generated draft. The output is grammatical and generic, and generic is the exact reason resumes get screened out. Ask directly: does a human who has made hiring decisions write this, or review it after software does? We compared all three routes — template, builder and human — in the resume writer vs. AI resume builder guide.

How many documents you're actually buying

Headline prices usually cover the resume alone. Cover letter, LinkedIn rewrite, and any kind of search strategy are frequently priced as add-ons — which is how a $250 quote becomes $600 at checkout. Compare full bundles against full bundles.

Turnaround

Rush fees are real and typically add 25% to 50%. If a posting closes Friday, that surcharge is usually worth paying. If you're preparing ahead of a search, it isn't.

The four ways resume writers bill

Flat per-package pricing

The most common and the easiest to compare. One price, a defined document set, a stated number of revision rounds. Read the revision limit before you sign — "unlimited revisions" and "one round" are very different products at the same headline price.

Hourly

Typically $75 to $250 an hour, most often with independent writers and career coaches. Honest, but hard to budget: you cannot know the total before the work starts, and a complex history takes longer than a simple one.

Subscription or per-application

You pay monthly, or per job description tailored. This makes sense during an active search where every application needs its own version, and makes no sense if you need one strong document and then stop paying.

Bundled coaching retainers

Resume writing folded into a larger career coaching engagement, often $2,000 and up. You're buying the coach's time; the resume is a deliverable inside it. Fine if you want the coaching, expensive if you only wanted the document.

The cost question nobody puts in the quote

Every quote prices pages. None of them price outcomes.

A $150 resume that never clears an applicant tracking system costs infinitely more per interview than a $400 one that does, because the denominator is zero. The only figure that matters is cost per interview, and you can only estimate it by asking what the provider does to make the document survive screening.

Two questions worth asking before you pay anyone. First: is this resume tested against an actual ATS, or just described as "ATS-friendly"? Second: what happens if it doesn't get responses — is there a rework policy, and how long does it run? A provider confident in the work will answer both without hedging. If you want to see where your current resume stands before you spend anything, our free resume audit scores it on both the human read and the ATS read.

What Noticeable charges

Three flat packages, no add-on pricing, no hourly meter. Every one is written by a human strategist who has sat on the hiring side, and delivered in 24 to 96 hours.

The First Read — $74.95. A resume rebuilt from scratch by a strategist and engineered for ATS, plus a cover letter written to your specific target posting. Includes a free resume and ATS audit.

The BeNoticed Kit — $199.95. Everything in The First Read plus the Strategic Plan: positioning, your story, and how you win the role before you're in the room. See what's inside the Kit.

The Standout — $395.95. Twelve months of unlimited job descriptions, so every application in your search is covered. Adds LinkedIn optimization, the Blind Spot Report, position fit and gap analysis, Interview Edge, and the complete six-report interview library.

That places a full mid-career document set below the bottom of the typical mid-career band, and a senior-level package below what most writers charge for a resume alone. The difference isn't corner-cutting — it's that the strategy work is systematized instead of billed by the hour. Full details on the pricing page.

Employers covering exits price differently again: our outplacement pricing runs $395 per departing employee for six documents.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about resume writing cost

How much does a professional resume writer cost?

Most professional resume writing falls between $100 and $800. Entry-level and student resumes run roughly $100 to $300, mid-career professionals $300 to $800, and executive or C-suite packages $800 to $3,000 or more. Price tracks career level, the number of documents included, and whether a human strategist writes it or software generates a draft.

Why do executive resume writers charge so much more?

An executive resume is a positioning document, not a work history. It takes an intake interview, board- and P&L-level framing, and several rounds of revision, which is many more strategist hours than a two-page mid-career resume. The longer executive search window also means the document has to hold up across nine to twelve months of applications.

Are cheap resume services worth it?

Below about $100 you are almost always buying a template fill or an AI-generated draft with light human review. Those documents read like every other document in the stack, which is the specific problem you were trying to solve. The question worth asking is not what it costs, but whether a human who has actually made hiring decisions touched it.

Should the price include a cover letter and LinkedIn?

It depends on the provider. Many writers price the resume alone and bill the cover letter and LinkedIn rewrite as add-ons, which is how a $250 quote becomes $600. Always ask for the price of the full set you actually need rather than the headline resume price.

Do resume writers charge hourly or a flat fee?

Flat per-package pricing is the most common and the easiest to compare. Hourly pricing, typically $75 to $250 an hour, shows up with independent writers and career coaches. Subscription and per-application models also exist. Hourly is the hardest to budget because you cannot know the total before you start.

How much does Noticeable charge for a resume?

Noticeable prices in three flat packages: The First Read at $74.95 for a human-rebuilt ATS resume and a custom cover letter, The BeNoticed Kit at $199.95 which adds the Strategic Plan, and The Standout at $395.95 for twelve months of unlimited job descriptions plus LinkedIn optimization, Blind Spot Report, Interview Edge and the full interview report library. Delivery runs 24 to 96 hours.
